On Friday 12th of June, all the members of the Developmental Resilience lab participated in the IRIBHM PhD day. This annual retreat allowed our lab members to present their work in flash talks and posters, with great scientific exchange with the ULB community.
On Thursday 11th of June, Tomas Aragon visited IRIBHM and gave a fantastic seminar explaining how the unfolded protein response (UPR) fine-tunes neuronal cell death in ALS. Every student in the lab presented the ongoing projects and got feedback from a titan of the endoplasmic reticulum stress field.
Last December, Anchel presented our work at the annual meeting of the Molecular Biology Society of Japan (MBSJ) in Yokohama, a major life sciences conference. Following an invitation of our collaborator Tomomi Tsubouchi, he also visited the National Institute for Basic Biology in Okazaki, giving a seminar and interacting with experts in cell and developmental biology. The meeting provided an excellent opportunity to share our research, build new collaborations, and represent IRIBHM ULB on an international stage.
We are welcoming new lab members; Begum Boke begins her PhD studying proteostasis across early development, and Jose Manuel Osorio joins as Erasmus Mundus intern to develop new stress biosensors to apply in our stem cell models.
We are grateful for the funding received this 2025. Anchel obtained core funding for studying resilience to redox imbalance in development through FNRS-MISU mandate, and Gayathri secured a PhD fellowship from the Belgian Kids Fund.
The Developmental Resilience lab takes its first steps at Erasme Campus (ULB). We are at IRIBHM institute, a historical center founded to study initially thyroid biology and disease, which currently host several interdisciplinary research groups.
